How to apply
- 01Ask for the payment plan
Most schools split tuition across the length of the course. Some use a financing partner with a short application.
- 02Plan the reimbursement
If a nursing home hires you within 12 months, the federal rule requires them to reimburse the course. Keep every receipt.
- 03Know the Pell limits
Standard Pell needs a program of about 600 clock hours. CNA courses are shorter. Workforce Pell covers shorter programs but only at schools in the federal aid system.

- You want to start now and be reimbursed by an employer later
Know before you go
- Avoid high interest consumer loans for a course that costs a few hundred to two thousand dollars.
- Compare the full price including books and the exam, not just tuition.
