How it works

Getting workforce vouchers, step by step

Find your board
One board covers your county. We match it from your county name and send the number.
Get screened
Call or walk in. Bring photo ID, proof of address, six months of income or your layoff notice, and Selective Service if you are a man under 26.
Ask for an Individual Training Account
Name the occupation, Nurse Aide, code 31-1131, and the school you want. The school must be on the state approved provider list.
Enroll
The board issues the voucher in the school's name. The school bills the board. You pay nothing.

You are 18 or older, or 16 to 24 and not in school
You are authorized to work in the United States
One of these is true: low household income, laid off, or receiving public assistance

The school must be on your state's Eligible Training Provider List. Many small programs are not. Ask before your appointment.
Boards run low on money late in the program year, April to June. Earlier is easier.
Counselors cannot pick a school for you. Arrive with one in mind.

Is this a loan?

No. A voucher is a grant paid directly to the school. Nothing is repaid.

Can I use it at any school?

Only at a program on your state's approved provider list. Ask the school whether it is listed, and if not, whether it will apply.

What if I am denied?

Ask why. Often it is a missing document. If it is income, look at employer sponsorship, which has no income test.
