Texas has 265 nurse aide training programs across 152 cities, every one of them on the state approved roster. The largest clusters are in Houston (33), Dallas (15) and Big Spring (10), and most other cities have one or two programs within a short drive.

Most are run by private training schools (150), nursing homes and other employers that train their own aides (67) and community and technical colleges (21). Nursing home programs are often free in exchange for working there after you certify, while schools and colleges publish a price and accept workforce vouchers.

Texas requires 100 hours of training, including 40 hours of supervised clinical practice. After class you take the state exam through Prometric, which costs $120 for both parts, and your name goes on the state nurse aide registry. Classroom theory can be taught online, but lab and clinical hours are in person.
